REVENGE IS BITTERSWEET

Beauty had gotten a bad feeling about the run about an hour before she and Scar were to leave the safe house. Scar said she was just being paranoid, after all they were just gonna go steal some data from a small corporation. She sure hoped he was right. Just as the runners were about to infiltrate the inner building Scar thought that he heard a small noise, he shifted the vision in his cybereyes from normal to infrared. As he did so he noticed two guards approaching from the rear, by the casual way they were walking he guessed they were just out patrolling.

"Beauty we got a couple of guards coming up on us lets kill they so they don’t sound any alarms, after all it’s better to be same then sorry," Scar whispered.

"You just want an excuse to kill something," Beauty shot back. "But you do have a good point," she said as Scar pulled out his gun. "No your guns are all too noisy," she whispered.

"Then I’ll use these," Scar said as His cyberspurs came into view.

"And I’ll cover your back just like I always have," Beauty said. "Now get going, she said as she pulled her silenced Predator. As soon as the words left her lips Scar was around the corner and slicing into one of the guards. Scar finished off the guards before they even had time to draw their weapons.

"I just love these enhanced reflexes," Scar remarked as he came back around the corner.

"Well I’m glad you’ve had your fun, but I hope we don’t run into any more serious trouble." Beauty added as she slipped through the gate and into the inner grounds of the building. The pair slipped into the building without further incident. After making there to the proper floor they crept through the shadows and into the vault that contained the disk they were after. The found the disk after only a few minutes searching, and made their way back out of the facility.

"See I told you everything would go just fine," Scar commented on the way back to the safe house.

"Yeah I guess so," she replied. As soon as the words left her mouth she heard the explosion. Someone was firing at them. Scar pulled the car off the road and they grabbed their weapons as they dived out. As they hit the ground the car burst into flames. They ran to the nearest cover and opened fire on the enemies.

"They must have followed us," Beauty shouted as she ripped through the clip of her H&K227.

"That’s OK I’ve been wanting a good fight since this run began," Scar shouted back as two of the assailants dropped dead. The attackers retreated after a few minutes.

"I wonder why they ran off so fast," Scar mused.

"Because they got what they wanted, the data chip’s gone," she said gravely.

"Well lets go check the bodies to try and find some clues as to who did this," he said as he walked toward the slain attackers. They identified two of the attackers as lackeys for the local Mafia boss.

"Wonder what the Mafia wants with the data?" Beauty asked.

"I don’t know but I think we owe them a little revenge," Scar answered.

Then the pair returned to the safe house they began planning how best to get their revenge.

"I think we should just go in and take out the guy," Scar said after they had been talking for a while.

"Yeah that might work if he didn’t have about thirty bodyguards," she replied.

"Oh Yeah." She had always been the brains of the operation. After a few hours of sleep and a lot more talking they came up with a plan. They would have Sister Wizard, a decker friend of theirs, set off an alarm somewhere else in the building, that would leave only the boss and two bodyguards for them to deal with.

The infiltration went as planned. They were in their hiding spots five minutes before the alarm was to go off. Now all they had to do was wait. Scar checked the magazine on his Uzi III one last time. The alarm went off and the guards responded just like the team had planned it. After the guards left Scar and Beauty leapt into action. The first of the two guards dropped from the initial burst of fire. Beauty picked off the second an instant before he could get to cover. Now all that was left was the boss, and they weren’t gonna kill him before they found out why he had hosed their operation.

"So why’d you do it?" Beauty asked.

"Do what," he replied

"Mess up our operation, what did the Mafia want with the data on that chip" Scar growled at him.

"The Mafia didn’t want it the wyrm Tersal did, and you two were supposed to be dead." The boss replied

"Yeah well we’re not but you’re about to be," Scar said.

"Got any last requests?" Beauty said

"Yea that you die with me," he said as the cyber spurs came out of his arm. Scar tried to pull away, but the Mafia boss was to quick. He cleanly sliced Scar’s side open as Scar pulled the trigger and killed him. Scar’s side was gushing blood as Beauty ran over to him.

"Are you ok?" she asked.

"I don’t think I’ll be able to get out," Scar gasped as he spit a mouthful of blood.

"Then I’m staying with you," Beauty replied.

"No, you gotta get out and make sure Tersal pays for this. I love you," he managed to get out before his eyes closed and slipped away to the call of death.

"I love you too," she kissed him on the cheek and ran for the exit. When she got back to the doss, that had been her and Scar’s base for so long, she swore that she would make Tersal pay for taking the only person she truly loved away from her.
